About Your Trainer

Ian, the founder of California Working Dogs, has been surrounded by animals since a young age. Spending time on a ranch in the high desert, he began his education in animal husbandry and training with Llamas. However, it wasn't until he connected with canines that his passion truly ignited.

With over 20 years of experience, Ian has excelled in training dogs for life inside and outside of the home. His belief in three fundamental aspects of dog wellness - exercise/fitness, diet, and most importantly training - have been the cornerstone of his success.

As Ian's passion grew, he found himself involved in highly competitive sport and obedience circles while learning the importance of safe and proper dog ownership. His expertise caught the attention of several Northern and Southern California police departments, where he has previously worked with and trained their K9 units.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Ian has continued to expand his knowledge, traveling to complete a wide range of working K9 and law enforcement courses, including canine trauma and emergency medical classes. He is a certified NADF level 2 decoy and has trained and trialed several of his own dogs, many of which have gone on to win multiple titles and even compete at a nationally recognized level.

Ian's love for dogs extends beyond training and first aid; he has also bred litters of his own and studied with respected dogmen who specialize in fitness and conditioning, as well as dieting for high-performance competitive level dogs.

With an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, Ian continues to attend seminars and train with individuals at the forefront of the dog training revolution, always looking for ways to improve his techniques.
